  • The GB WEXCL Connection is a second generation connection designed for production riser service. This connection features a multiple taper design to reduce stress concentration factors in critical areas, dope relief grooves to eliminate high stresses associated with trapped thread compound, and proprietary water exclusion seals. In an optimized production riser string design, the GB WEXCL is used in the "middle-of-the-string" where lower level cyclic loading is experienced. 
  • Corrosion pitting from long-term salt water exposure is eliminated in the GB WEXCL through the combined use of zinc-electro-plating and innovative water exclusion seals Zinc electro-plating serves three purposes: (1) seal-ability, (2) lubricity (anti-galling treatment), and (3) cathodic protection (acts as a sacrificial anode). The water exclusion seal eliminates saltwater migration (and therefore, introduction of fresh oxygen) into the imperfect threads. Independent tests demonstrated this combination eliminated early fatigue failures associated with corrosion pitting in similar but unprotected connections.

  • Twin cantilever design reinforces the coupling limiting expansion and distortion from make-up, reducing assembly pre-stresses, and minimizing thread galling.
  • Low stress concentration factors as a result of multiple box thread tapers that compensate for pin bending and elongation occurring with assembly.
  • Water Exclusion Seals eliminate corrosion with long-term exposure to salt water regardless of water depth.

  • Interchange-able with standard API Buttress Threads eliminates cross-over and special accessories, such as float shoes and collars.
  • Uses standard API and MRP gauges and procedures for inspection.

  • Positive make up to internal torque shoulders. 
  • 100% joint efficient under all load combinations. Will not jump out (or in) in high angle build sections common in directional drilling.
